Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
